Merit 2017 leadership House Captain #5
The second thing the house captains need to do in the morning is put out the bins. By this I mean the house bins, the ones for the challenge we created. Firstly we need the keys, as the place where they are put is locked. We open the gate and, taking one to two bins each, wheel them out to the front of room 11 where they spend the rest of the day until the other group of house captains responsible for putting the flags and bins away, puts them away.
The care values I show while doing this are Active Thinking by actually remembering to do it and Respect by respecting the school because we are encouraging students to clean up the school.

Every morning Tracy, Amelia, Sophie and I put out the flags and bins. When we get to school we do the flags together, sometimes just with 2 or 3 of us. First we open both doors to the radio room, then we get out the flags and take them to the flag poles(they're not exactly flag poles but I don't know what to call them). We then put them up (there are 6 of them), before closing the door and going to either to the bins of go back to class.
The care values I show when doing this are Community by working together and Active Thinking by each doing the same amount so we finish at roughly the same time.

Yesterday on Thursday we went to tech. I am currently in design and textiles. This week I spent nearly the whole time making my final product. I am making a dog harness for my dog, Toby. The first thing I did was finish the chestpiece on a sewing machine. I then threaded a piece of webbing strap through it (I left two holes one in each end.) I then made a loop with the end of the strap for the neck strap to go through. The dog harness has 3D printer made parts, buckles and one pentagon shaped ring to clip a lead onto - I designed these. During tech I also went to a screen printing workshop, I might use this on the chest piece. I tested it out when I got home, the only problem is that the neck strap comes undone when he pulls on the lead, not a good thing. If I have time next week I might try to fix it. Maybe a differently shaped buckle would help.
The care values I showed at tech were Respect by listening respectfully at the workshop and Excellence by finishing just in time so I could test it.

On Friday we had buddy programme again. Since Tracy and I planned last week, this week we were running games. The first thing we did was set up our game. We went on the basketball court, I set up 4 cones in each corner of half the court, while Tracy checked the rules on a chromebook. The first game we played with our first group was captains coming. I think it went very well. We played a simplified version. Basicly when we said Bow they would run to one end of the court. If we said Stern it would be a different end. The same for Port and Starboard. After they understood that we added in more rules, captains coming (where they salute), scrub the deck ( they pretend to scrub the ground) and row boat ( after saying row boat we say a number and that is how many fit in the row boat, they get into lines of that amount and pretend to row.)
The second game we played was Tangles. This one didn't work so well. What was supposed to happen was they would stand in a circle holding hands with people across the circle, they try untangle themselves. With them they mostly either held hands with the person next to them, or once two people were holding hands they would grab onto them and about 4 to 6 people would be holding the same hand.
The final game we played was Tricky Tag. It worked ok, though some of them didn't really get the rules or were playing different rules.
The second group didn't go quite as well as the first group, but they were ok.
The care values I showed were Community by getting involved in Captain Coming if they couldn't remember which way to go. I also showed Active Thinking by stopping the games that didn't work so well and trying something else.

On Wednesday we had the Run, bike, run at westlake park. All the students from year 4 to 8 went. As a house captain I had to run a game. Amelia and I ran multiple games of french cricket.
In the run, bike run I did individual. We had to run around the main lake once, bike around the field and both lakes, and finally run around the field. I came second in the 12yr old girls.
Thre care values I showed were Active Thinking by running a succsessful game and Community by helping the other house captains with their games.

On Thursday instead of going to tech I went to the swim trials at jelly park. I competed in freestyle and backstroke. I came third in both events. What we did first once we got there was do the roll, then we went inside. I already had togs on underneath so, unlike some people, I didn't have to get changed.
After a little while, we had some time to do a warm up in the pool. I practised dives and also swam a couple of lengths.
The care values I showed were Excellence by trying my best and Community by cheering other people.

Home learning Challenge - R8
R8.Research food from another culture. Prepare a dish from this culture and serve it to your family.
Pizza is a yeasted flat bread topped with all types of flavour; commonly meats, vegetables, usually with a tomato based sauce although other sauces can be used and cheese, usually mozzarella. It is baked in an oven. The word pizza was first used in Gaeta which is a city in Italy. It soon spread throughout Central and Southen Italy. The rest of the world also came to eat pizza after world war II, when Allied troops staitioned in Italy came to enjoy pizza along with other italian foods. Until the late 19th and 20th century the dish was sweet and not savoury. My favourite pizza is the Margherita.
To make the pizza, first I made up some dough, then later that evening I rolled out each piece, added toppings, and finally Mum helped me put them in the oven. Here are some photos of the pizzas.

Merit 2017 leadership House Captain #2
This week Mrs McLeod was taking the student leaders for leadership. First the house captains finished the slideshow we created to share the rubbish bin challenge with the rest of the school. We are going to share this at assembly next Monday(at the full school assembly). We practiced by sharing our idea with the rest of the student leaders. The chrome cast wasn't working very well. After that we played a game called Hotseat. In this game one person sits on a chair in front of everyone else. They are assigned a character to act as. Everyone else asks them questions that they answer in character. I was the Big Bad wolf. Some other characters were Shrek, Little Red Riding hood and the Easter bunny.
The care values I showed were Active Thinking in the game by thinking quickly to come up with answers to questions and also Community by working with the other house captains on the slide.

On Friday I did buddy program. We got to meet our new buddies for 2017. First we all went to a classroom, 7 to each. Then we were all given 2-3 kids. First my group played with the Lego, then we all went outside and played on the playground. After that we tried out some games without equipment, like sneak up granny and tricky tag.
The care values I showed were Community and Respect by listening to what the juniors said and involving them.

This week was the first week of technology. The group I am in is doing textiles and design first. Since it is the first week we spent most of the time setting goals for what we want to achieve during tech this year. I want to basically learn as much stuff about the subjects as possible.
We also started mandarin. It is in a different building with different teachers. We learnt about Chinese new year and a bit about spring festival. The colour red is important to Chinese people.
The care value I showed was active thinking by trying to learn more mandarin and remember most of the words.

Merit 2017 Leadership House Captain #1
This year I am a House captain. Today we watched a video about ideas for what project we will work on for the year.
Our idea is that to motivate people to pick up rubbish we would have a house competition. There is going to be four bins one for each house. They will be coloured according to house colours. We might fundraise for money to run it. Also have bonus rounds where tickets are hidden and students can earn house points for their house by finding it. This would motivate people to actually look for rubbish.
The care value I showed was active thinking by thinking of how to do our idea and community by working with the other house captains.
