Term 2 Book Review

The Name of the Wind
By Patrick Rothfuss

This story is about a man called Kvothe, who tells his story. It is a trilogy, and the second book is called Wise Mans Fear. The third book isn't out yet. This is the blurb:

‘I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me’

It is a great book, the plot twists and turns, and it is difficult to guess what will happen next. The characters are very realistic, you get caught up in the story. It is one of the best books I have ever read.

Term 2 Drama, 2017

In ARTS this term we have been learning to:
Select and use techniques and relevant technologies to develop drama practice.
Here is a link to our online modelling book.

  • During this unit of learning we:
  • Described the characteristics of silent performances.
  • Identified different techniques used in silent performances.
  • Used these techniques in a variety of different practice situations.
  • Worked in a small group to put together our own silent performance.

The most challenging part of this unit of learning was making up the silent performances because It was sometimes difficult to think of ideas.

The two things that I enjoyed the most were:
  1. Making up our silent performances.
  2. Learning different techniques of silent performances.

The story that my group told silently was A race day where the starting flag got stolen, and our other performance was about someone who lost their glasses and decided to steal someone else's glasses.

Overall I think my group worked well together because we worked well together, although we didn't quite finish, because we probably made it to long and complicated.

Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  • Year 9/10: I can read in different ways to find and/or understand information that that is not immediately easy to access or is not organised in familiar ways.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

I did the 40 hour Famine. I slept on the floor, and went without technology for 40 hours. I raised $60.20

Excellence 2017 Te Hapua #3

On Friday we went to Te Hapua as usual. It was our final session of robotics. We were doing a maze. Jacinta, Warisha and I were working together. The point of the maze was to knock over all the skittles and get out of the maze again. We were supposed to use the robots senses as well. None of the groups finished the maze, although quite a few were close, including us.

I showed Community by working with my team and taking turns to test our robots in the maze. The leadership trait I showed was Active Thinker, while programming the robot.
